The story chronicles Daredevils' return to Hell's Kitchen after he had just became the leader of the Hand Ninja clan. He has a temple/prison built in Hell's Kitchen, the eponymous Shadowland. His methods gets more extreme as he kills long time adversary Bullseye. The change in his attitude brings him and his ally White Tiger in conflict with a number of street level super heroes such as Spider-Man, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Moon Knight and more. The story also introduced a new Power Man to the Marvel Universe.
The heroes later realize that Daredevil has become possessed by the Beast of the Hand, which explains why Daredevil's actions became more and more extreme and erratic. The heroes are helped out by the Kingpin and Lady Bullseye as they try to preserve the Kingpin's criminal empire. In the final moments of the storyline Iron Fist uses his mystical chi to heal Daredevil, releasing the demon inside him. In an act of sacrifice Daredevil kills himself before the Beast can take control of him again, breaking the spell the Beast had on Hell's Kitchen. Afterwards his corpse disappears, apparently to be revived by Elektra at the conclusion of the event.

Bullseye escapes his prison transfer to the raft and calls out Daredevil in Hells Kitchen outside the Shadowland compound.

Ghost Rider (Johnny Blaze) is summoned by Kingpin using a scroll of ancient Hand magic. Kingpin sends him to the Shadowland temple to exact vengence on the Hand for the innocent being held prisoner.

Moon Knight as his Jake Lockley disguise hears that cops are being held in the Shadowland prison so he gets himself caught by some ninjas for vandelizing his own cab. Then uses lockpicks he swallowed to break out of his cell. AS Ghost Rider arrives to lay siege on the temple.

Punisher saves Luke Cage, Iron Fist and the others from Daredevil his Hand team as they assumed Ghost Rider was with them so they were quick to attack.

Spiderman and Shang-Chi Vs Mister Negative and his Inner Demons who are killing people and leaving the red hand mark of the Hand on their victims.
